Chief of Violence Intervention and Prevention Division,

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Chief for the Violence Intervention and Prevention Division at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. This full time position requires that the candidate be board certified in Child Abuse Pediatrics. Leadership qualities and skills in clinical work, team building, teaching, research and administration are needed. The Division functions clinically in the MUSC Children’s Hospital and two Child Advocacy Centers in the metropolitan area and serves children from many counties. The Division provides availability “24/7” through shared on-call coverage and has  over 1600 medical encounters per year  in outpatient clinics, the MUSC Children’s Hospital in-patient service and the MUSC Children’s Hospital Emergency Dept. We provide teaching to medical students, residents, fellows and other professionals, and co-sponsor a yearly 2 day child abuse conference in honor of Dr. Sara Schuh, the first child abuse pediatrician In SC. We participate in several outpatient CAC multi-disciplinary teams as well as an inpatient multidisciplinary team case review at MUSC children’s Hospital. The Division has three Child Abuse Pediatricians of whom one is semi-retired, one Child Abuse Pediatric Fellow, three mid-level practitioners, four RN’s for acute sexual assault/abuse cases, and appropriate administrative assistant support. The Division recently was approved for Fellowships in Child Abuse Pediatrics by the American Council for Graduate Medical Education. MUSC Children’s Hospital is a 185 bed tertiary referral center for the state of South Carolina and is the Level 1 trauma center for the eastern 1/3 of the state. There is a statewide Medical Response system to child abuse and neglect with a rich data base from the last 6 years, another in-house database and close collaboration with the MUSC National Crime Victims Center for research possibilities.
